Dan Filie, a writer-producer and television development executive, died unexpectedly at his home in Studio City, California, on January 13, 2011. He was 56.
According to news reports, Filie died of natural causes.
As director of current drama for NBC and senior vice president drama development at Universal Television, Filie was responsible for the creation of many series, most notably the syndication hits Hercules and Xena: Warrior Princess.
More recently, Filie wrote and produced the screenplay for the 2009 feature film Frankenhood, a horror-comedy spoof, and, with Patricia Wells, co-wrote the “Old Wounds” episode of the Starz series Spartacus: Blood and Sand.
Survivors include a son and a brother.
