Jeff Gralnick, a new producer whose half-century career included stints with CBS, ABC, NBC and CNN during, died May 9, 2011, at his home in Connecticut. He was 72.
Gralnick worked 20 years at ABC and most recently was a consultant to Steve Capus, president of NBC News. Previously, at NBC, he worked for three years as executive producer of the NBC Nightly News with Tom Brokaw, and helped to make the broadcast the top-rated evening news show.
During his time with CBS, Gralnick wrote for Harry Reasoner and Walter Cronkite, covering such stories as the Apollo 11 moon landing, and the Vietnam War. He was also a producer of 60 Minutes.
In 1972, after working for a year as senator George McGovern’s press secretary, Gralnick joined ABC News as a producer. He two stints as executive producer of World News Tonight with Peter Jennings. Later, as vice president and executive producer of special events at ABC News, he spearheaded every political convention and election from 1980-92, in addition to numerous special reports. In 1996 he returned to assist with the launch of ABCNews.com.
Three years later, Gralnick joined CNN, where he spent two years before his segue into consulting.
Survivors include his wife.
