Backstage in the Audi Green Room
For the second consecutive year, Audi returns as the official automotive partner of the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, and this year, the brand expands its partnership with the exciting introduction of the Audi Green Room.
In its inaugural year as the sponsor of the Green Room at the Primetime Emmy® Awards, Audi collaborates with famed designer Derek Lam to create a luxurious, design-forward space that draws direct influence from the refined elegance and unparalleled craftsmanship that epitomizes both brands.
“My vision for the Derek Lam brand is modern luxury and uncompromised quality, and Audi vehicles represent these very same principles,” said Derek Lam. “The Primetime Emmy® Awards are about performance, and style, and what better way to celebrate this special night, than by creating a space that brings these very features to life.”
The stunning space showcases the themes of the evening - performance and style, as presenters and nominees are immersed in a room that brings to life features of the new performance vehicles from Audi, the S and RS model lines. Just as the Primetime Emmy® Awards do, the S and RS models represent the very best in performance, and through cutting-edge LED light displays inspired by Audi headlights, impeccable detailing, dynamic sweeping lines and meticulous engineering, Audi and Derek Lam create a haven inspired by these vehicles.
To turn these attributes into reality, Mr. Lam turned to his go-to architect, Neal Beckstedt, to carry out the execution. An ebonized herringbone bamboo floor and a floating white ceiling plane set the stage for a curving metallic fabric form that defines the entrance and main lounge within. Once inside, the metallic fabric is offset by sleek volumes lacquered in Audi’s signature black car paint, while curving planes of silk gray fabric define the seating areas. A curated selection of vintage furniture spanning from early to late twentieth century is casually composed creating an effortless, yet refined lounge. Lam selected several pieces from his favorite LA-based store, J.F. Chen, to create this luxurious setting. Rare 1960’s Danish chairs are mixed with pieces by Jacques Adnet and T.H. Robsjohn Gibbings.
In addition to the Audi Green Room, the brand also collaborated with Derek Lam on their annual pre-Emmy® celebration held on September 16 in West Hollywood. The Audi brand has become known for its annual star-studded parties to kick off awards week, and this year’s highly anticipated event was held in partnership with Derek Lam.
Audi, one of the top luxury automakers in the world, has longstanding ties to the entertainment industry and remains a committed friend to the arts. Award-winning designer Derek Lam is known for creating luxurious and wearable clothing with a simplistic femininity. His sophisticated touch produces modern and refined pieces that pay exceptional attention to details and high quality fabrics and his goal is to make fashion that is unprecedented in quality and timeless in elegance, much like Audi vehicles.
The Audi Green Room will also be a part of Backstage Live, a second screen, interactive digital destination giving fans a multi-faceted look behind the scenes at this year’s awards. This year, Backstage Live, presented by Audi, will give viewers at home the unique opportunity to see the Audi Green Room as well as grant them access to exciting footage from the 64th Primetime Emmys® Red Carpet arrivals, special content about the nominees, fashion round-ups and a glimpse of what happens behind the scenes, to produce the telecast.
