On Friday, September 18, the Television Academy hosted Governor Gavin Newsom for the signing of AB 2319, which establishes California's first stand-alone tax incentive for post-production work.
The bill represents a major victory for California's post-production community and reflects months of advocacy by the California Post Alliance, the Television Academy's Advocacy Committee, and a coalition of industry partners committed to retaining entertainment jobs and investment in California.

"AB 2319 marks a historic new chapter for California's post-production community. For the first time, post is being recognized in its own right as an essential part of California's entertainment economy — and as a craft that deserves investment, protection and a future in the state the workforce calls home. Having Governor Newsom sign California's first ever stand-alone post-production tax incentive at the Television Academy was especially meaningful, because it is an organization that elevates and celebrates our craft. There is much work ahead, but today we celebrate a wonderful start!"

The signing ceremony was attended by Assemblymember Nick Schultz, the bill's author, whose district is home to many members of the television post-production workforce.
"Having worked in the sound post-production community for over 30 years, and serving as a Television Academy Sound Editor Governor, this was truly a historic and deeply meaningful moment. I'm proud to have witnessed this important and historic milestone for our industry. This legislation marks a significant step forward and will help support and strengthen the post-production community as a whole."

Also in attendance were representatives from the California Film Commission, MPEG Local 700, the California Post Alliance, and members of the California Legislature, including Assemblymember Rick Zbur and State Senators Ben Allen and Henry Stern.
