Today, Congress took a critical step toward keeping television production in the United States. As the sole organization representing the entirety of the television industry, the Television Academy urges the Senate and the House to pass the "Motion Picture, Television, and Entertainment Revitalization Act."
For years, our members have told us they want the opportunity to build successful careers without having to leave their communities or spend extended periods away from their families. This legislation would help retain production jobs in the United States, create opportunities for television professionals to work closer to home, and strengthen the domestic workforce that powers one of America's most influential industries.
The legislation would provide a federal incentive for film and television production while complementing existing state programs. We are particularly encouraged to see post-production and visual effects included in the proposal. By allowing the federal incentive to work alongside state tax credits, the bill would help states compete more effectively in a global marketplace where production activity has increasingly moved overseas.
We applaud Senators Schiff and Scott and Representatives Moran, Sanchez, Jack, and Friedman for advancing this bipartisan effort. Their leadership recognizes both the economic and cultural importance of the television industry and the thousands of middle-class professionals whose livelihoods depend on it.
The Television Academy has worked with industry partners and policymakers for nearly two years to advance policies that strengthen the domestic production ecosystem and support the creative workforce. We are encouraged to see this effort reach this important milestone.
