Jean Smart has won seven Emmy Awards and is one of only two actors to have earned the award in comedy lead, supporting, and guest categories; she has also received three Actor Awards (SAG-AFTRA), three Golden Globes, six Critics Choice Awards, and a Grammy nomination. She has received four Emmy awards for her role as Deborah Vance on the HBO comedy Hacks. Other television credits include Mare of Easttown, Watchmen, Maximum Security, Fargo, Frasier, Legion, 24, Samantha, Who?, Designing Women, Style & Substance, and High Society.

Jean Smart’s performance in Call Me Izzy, written by Jamie Wax (Evangeline, CBS News) and directed by Sarna Lapine (Sunday in the Park with George), this past summer marked her long-awaited return to Broadway. Call Me Izzy is a moving tour-de-force portrait of a woman who resists being silenced by using her tenacity, humor, and the force of her imagination. The performance earned her a 2026 Outer Critics Circle Award nomination in the category of Outstanding Solo Performance. She previously earned a Tony Award nomination for her role as Lorraine Sheldon in The Man Who Came to Dinner and also starred as Hollywood icon Marlene Dietrich in Piaf.

Smart’s Off-Broadway credits include Fit to Be Tied, written by Nicky Silver, and The End Of The Day, written by Jon Robin Baitz, both at Playwrights Horizons, as well as Last Summer at Bluefish Cove at Actors Playhouse, for which she received a Drama Desk nomination and won an L.A. Drama Critics Circle Award when she reprised the role at the Fountain Theatre.

Jean Smart was inducted into the Television Academy Hall of Fame in 2026.
