Me and My Emmy: The Boys' John Koyama

The talented stunt coordinator recalls how martial arts training in the fifth grade put him on the path to winning two Emmys.

EMMY TALLY: Two

HOW HE GOT THE GOLD: For stunt coordination in drama programming, in 2023 and 2025, for Prime Video’s The Boys.

NOW THE NOMS: Koyama has won each time he was nominated.

SHARED GLORY: "My first Emmy is at my mom’s house, next to my dad’s ashes, and the second Emmy is at my home in the family room. They inspire me, because they show how far I’ve come in this business. I’m grateful and fortunate to be able to do what I love."

UNFORESEEN OUTCOME: "Both wins were unexpected, but winning the second Emmy for back-to-back seasons of The Boys was a huge surprise."

GOOD BOYS: "The Boys will always be lightning in a bottle to me. The opportunity to create and collaborate with exceptional filmmakers and extraordinary talent made the journey with the Boys family one of the highlights of my career."

PHYSICAL EDUCATION: "I have studied Filipino martial arts and Jeet Kune Do since the fifth grade. That practice gave me an introduction into stunts and the opportunity to work on my first film."

The Boys is now streaming on Prime Video.
